Lasers of Light
Newcastle is celebrating New Year’s Eve 2024 with its spectacular Laser Light City show at the Quayside! For the past few years, this dazzling laser and light display has replaced the traditional large-scale fireworks, offering something unique and unforgettable.
Laser Light City returns with breathtaking visuals and sound effects. Featuring a variety of lasers, lighting, and pyrotechnics projected onto the iconic Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art. Visible across the city, the lasers light up the skies from December 30th to January 1st.
The best viewing spot? Head to the Quayside, directly opposite the Baltic, for a front-row view as the lasers dance through the bridges. This free event includes three 12-minute shows each evening at 6pm, 9pm, and midnight.
For those craving fireworks, don’t worry! Smaller unofficial displays are usually scattered throughout the city, so you’re likely to catch some extra sparkles lighting up Newcastle’s skyline.

The Jesmond area in Newcastle is quickly becoming one of the city’s trendiest spots—perfect for those looking to escape the bustle of the City Centre without missing out on a great night out. With plenty of bars and pubs, Jesmond is a top choice for a lively New Year’s Eve.
Most bars here are clustered along Osborne Road, only a 15-20 minute walk from Haymarket. This stretch is packed with hotels, restaurants, and bars on both sides, especially buzzing on weekends.
While many bars are modern, Jesmond is also home to one of Newcastle’s oldest pubs, The Punch Bowl, which dates back to the early 1800s—a must-visit spot for a bit of history mixed with your night out!

A night out in Ouseburn offers a unique, artsy twist to Newcastle’s nightlife. Ouseburn is known for its creative vibe and independent venues. This lively neighbourhood is a favourite for music lovers, craft beer enthusiasts, and those looking to experience something a little different.
