On my trip to India as an animal lover myself I saw many street animals throughout the cities of Jaipur, Jodhpur, Delhi, Mandawa injured and starving on the streets which is upsetting for anyone. These are dogs, cats, donkeys, cows and I learnt that most cities don’t have hospitals or vets so animals die of treatable conditions, all street animals are only dependent on the love and care of the local community. In Udaipur action is able to be taken due to Animal Aid, you are able to call the rescue line where they receive ‘approximately 70 calls each day, out of which around 20 animals require treatment in our hospital.’ Animal Aid provides hospital and medical care offering a range of treatment from vaccinations to tumor removals, they provide outreach and education in schools and volunteering and an on-call rescue team for street animals.
So if you are visiting India (which was my favourite city in India) this is a must-visit, the staff are so lovely asking if I could come back and volunteer. While you are there I advise you buy a gift as the money goes to Animal Aid and they have some lovely T-shirts.
- Plan your visit:
- Animal Aid offer a tour at 2.30 and 3.30 everyday, you book in on the website above which is really easy
- Email volunteering@animalaidunlimited.org if you would like to attend outside of these hours or if you are a large group
- It takes 25 mins to get here by TukTuk or taxi from the main centre, I came with a friend who owned a scooter but a TukTuk would be the cheaper option.
